How Ring Back Tones Work
Overview Key Features  |  How it Works
Ring Back Tones can be deployed in any of four means:

Service Node-based deployment
Used especially in small scale deployments, Service Node-based deployment does not require additional network resources. The existing SS7/ISUP resources can be used without any additional processor load. The tone player is used for entire duration of the call.

Switch Modification-based deployment
Switch Modification-based deployment is used when the Mobile Switching Centres (MSCs) are from a single vendor. The solution is feasible only if the Switch vendor has a known solution and is a relatively "hands free" deployment.

IN-based deployment
IN based deployment is used when the network has a mix of MSCs and switch modification patch is not available.

Release Line Trunking (RLT) or Two 'B' Channel Transfer (TBCT)-based deployment
This method is mostly used in wire-line deployments.

 The User Experience with RBTs

One Touch RBT
One Touch RBT has made RBT song selection & RBT activation simple for all subscribers.

Any subscriber can press '*' while listening to another subscriber ’s RBT & the OnMobile System will carry out one of the following:

In case, the caller & the receiver of the call belong to the same telecom operator;

1. If the subscriber who pressed ‘*’ is an existing RBT subscriber, then the system will copy the song the caller heard as their RBT and send a confirmation SMS

2. If the subscriber who pressed ‘*’ is not a RBT subscriber, then the system will send an SMS to facilitate RBT activation and then set the song the caller heard as their RBT

Additionally, if a shuffle category is set for “All” the callers then the entire shuffle category will be copied across. Once the RBT is copied, an SMS will be sent out to confirm the same. Customization in terms of Enabling/disabling & SMS text changes if required is easily configurable.

In case, the caller & the receiver of the call do not belong to the same telecom operator, then the caller is sent an SMS informing him the action of copying the song is not permissible.
